Blog: Our (short) thoughts on stories, storytellers and everything in between.
We built Nanotales to help people discover, tell and share short stories. We do this by collecting the world's best short stories and offering them as delecteble audio snacks on a variety of devices (starting with the iPhone).
The way we create, consume and interact with media is changing. Mobile devices make it easy to consume media practically anywhere, while social platforms simplify the process of sharing great content with friends and family. As more and more people look for quick, bite-sized experiences to inspire and entertain them the need for quality stories increases.
Yet finding great short stories online continues to be a challenge. Many great stories never make it online to begin with. The physical limitations of traditional publishing meant that short stories could only be published in a printed anthology. Many authors choose to publish their stories in literary journals (or not publish them at all - keeping them deep in their drawers) which often have limited audience reach. The stories that are available online are dispersed across thousands of websites, making them difficult to find. Few of the stories found online are in audio format, making them less than optimal for consumption while you're in motion.
Nanotales was founded by Ziv Navoth and Edo Segal - two digital veterans with a passion for storytelling. We want to bring you the best stories out there and make it easy for you to discover more stories and storytellers as time goes by. If you like what we're doing (or hate it), drop us a line. If you're an author (published or not), click here and tell us (and the rest of the world) you're story.
What’s Your Story?
Whether you’ve published a book or not, Nanotales can help you get discovered, reach more people and make money from your writing.
What’s In It For You?
- Grow Your Audience: Nanotales can help you reach an audience that might not be familiar with your work. Since short stories require very little time and money commitment, it’s easier for people to consume them than your books, letting you build a wider audience in a shorter period of time. Nanotales’ built-in social tools make it easy for your audience to tell their friends and family about your work, further expanding your reach.
- Sell More Books: Short stories are the perfect gateway to get people to buy your books. They give your audience a low-risk, satisfying taste of your work, letting them quickly sample your style. A direct link to purchasing your book(s) is available at the end of each story, making it incredibly easy for someone who likes your writing to buy your book.
- Make More Money: If you’re like most authors, you’re not making money from your short stories. Short story compilations rarely become best-sellers and literary publications seldom pay much (if anything) for publishing shorts. Nanotales changes the rules of the game – letting you make money from your work by allowing you to sell short stories directly to your fans.
How Does It Work?
We believe authors should make a fair share from selling their work through us. Beyond giving you the ability to edit your own author page and provide direct links for users to buy your books, Nanotales offers authors two simple ways to publish their stories:
- Audio DIY: Upload your own short story audio recording to Nanotales (or use nifty recording tool) and receive 50% of list price, net of delivery charges.
- Nanotales Studio: Send us your short story and we’ll hire a professional voice actor to record the story for you. Once you upload your text we’ll give you a cost estimate. Productions usually take less than a week and prices start at $200/story.
